A terrific days racing at Whilton Mill for our 2012 E-Plate championship (19/02/12) produced worthy winners in all 4 of our classes.

E-PLate February 19th 2012 – An unprecedented number of family connections will contest this weekend’s curtain-raiser to the Easykart season.

World and national champions Luca and Ayrton Hirst recommence their battle for sibling supremacy in the Light class, but face a stern test from a quality field that includes Sam Dimelow, Barnaby Pittingale and race-winner Jake Hughes. World Finals Vice-Champion Patrick Lay has opted to sit the E Plate out, but his fellow finalists Brad Fairhurst, Jamie Summerhayes and Grant Hunter will be racing and are quick.

Dimelow will be joined by his younger brother Ben, who is an unknown quantity in Easykart terms, but will be well worth keeping an eye out for.

With reigning UK and World Finals Champion Pittingale moving to the Light brigade, his perennial shadow Will Smith is arguably the man to beat. That said, if they can throw off their usual early-season bad luck, then ‘Sir’ Tim Hill and Mark Lawrence will fancy their chances. In a reverse swap with Pittingale, former Light star Joe Paterson has moved into the Heavy class and will almost certainly impose himself at the front of the field.

Last year’s most-improved driver, Andy Gould, is fired-up for his best season ever – the E-Plate’s winner-takes-all format could play into his hands.

One of the most popular and feisty members of the Easykart fraternity, Jack Bruce, will provide excitement, drama and quite possibly, not a little controversy. And that’s before he’s got in the kart!

Expect series regulars Roland Bredner, Michael Roots, Simon Mace, Jim Rainbird, Neil Fisher and Ken Churchill also to be scrapping hard for the overall victory. A Carl Churchill has also entered this weekend’s race, could he be yet another brother in this most family-friendly series?

Having graduated from the Easykart Driver Program to join Birel’s works KF3 team, Will Stowell is making a welcome return to his roots and will renew his on-track rivalry with Ronan McKenzie. First they will have to deal with the blistering pace of current E-Plate holder James Lay. In turn, the stylish Oxfordshire pilot will have his hands full fending off Fulbeck-winner Zack Nickson and the emerging talents of Jack New and Michael Iacovou.

Esmee Hawkey, who featured strongly at Castelletto in her Cadet swansong, makes her Junior bow this weekend and making his debut at Whilton will be Thanassi Barnicoat. A warm reception awaits him and it will be great to see how he settles in to Easykart.

As in the other classes, discussions with seasoned Easykart watchers invariably produce one or two names that crop up as possible winners. In this case, Sam Faulkner and Jenson Murchison have the ‘dubious’ honour of being dubbed the clear favourites. This should not serve to downplay the abilities or chances of their fellow competitors. Ethan Hawkey – younger brother of Esmee – edged his way forward last year and will make his experience count.

Entries for next week’s E plate have been extended to close on wednesday 15th Feb without any late penalty fees. Entries look good across the classes but we also understand the recent inclemant weather may have made you wait til the last minute !

The weather looks much better for next week and we are looking forward to meeting up again with all drivers and welcoming a lot of newcomers too.

Pre order tyre forms will also still be accepted up to Wednesday 17.00pm.
